Midweek warm up keeps temperatures far above average
Stronger winds kicked in after midnight on Tuesday, with a low pressure system just off to our east causing northwest winds. Gusts will continue to be around 20-30 mph through the morning, adding a wind chill about 10° colder than actual air temperatures.
The low will continue to slide east throughout the day, taking the wind with it.
Those winds will have a large influence on temperatures in eastern Nebraska, though. Another day where highs will be right around average in the low to mid 40s can be expected for Tuesday afternoon. Winds remain out of the northwest for the day, too.
Winds out of the southwest by Wednesday however, will be just one of the things working in our favor for pleasant early December conditions. Highs across Nebraska will be in the 50s and 60s – way above normal for this time of year.
And the warm up doesn’t stop there in talking about the next two days. Tuesday and Wednesday forecast temperatures are nowhere near record warmth. But looking a bit farther into the future, Thursday will have the potential to be almost as warm as records for the date in Lincoln.
Other than the quiet and dry warming trend, we’re also still keeping an eye on chances for a light rain and snow late Friday night into Saturday. Friday night a cold front will come through with a chance at some light precipitation associated with it before a low develops through Kansas.
Being on the northern edge of that system may lead to some rain/snow too, but there’s some more questions at this point on how much of that northern edge we may see if we see it at all.
