Mild Temperatures Friday, Hot Weekend Ahead
Weather History – July 25:
July 25 is a significant day in the record books for weather in the Capital City. Both the highest (115 degrees) and second-highest (113 degrees) temperatures ever recorded in Lincoln happened on July 25 of 1936, and 1940, respectively. Additionally, in 1990, Lincoln also saw the second-highest single-day precipitation record, which was just short of 5.5 inches of rain in one day.
Forecast:
Thankfully, we will not be seeing record-setting heat in the Capital City today; in fact, it has been a fairly mild end to the work week. Mostly cloudy skies today with rain chances this afternoon, as seen above with our latest run of Stormcast.
Low temperatures tonight will drop into the upper 60s and lower 70s for southeastern Nebraska. Dew points tonight will remain high this evening in the lower 70s, which will allow for areas of patchy fog tomorrow morning.
In the Capital City, a low temperature tonight of 71 degrees with mostly cloudy skies. Mostly cloudy skies will be joined by a southeasterly breeze and the chances of a stray shower.
As winds continue out of the south on Saturday, they will continue to transport heat and humidity across our area. High temperatures on Saturday will reach the upper 80s and lower 90s with partly sunny skies.
In Lincoln, we will reach the lower 90s on Saturday to kick off the weekend with a southerly breeze.
The heat continues to rise through the weekend, reaching the upper 90s on Sunday. Mostly sunny conditions this weekend with increasing winds on Sunday.
Our latest round of heat comes to a close on Tuesday with a passing cold front. Storm chances will be possible with this front’s passage, and we will also see much cooler temperatures in the days that follow. Temperatures will remain below average as we begin the month of August.
