Milford Varsity Football game cancelled due to coronavirus

MILFORD, Neb. (KLKN) — The Milford Eagles have cancelled next week’s varsity football game due to the coronavirus.

Milford Public Schools (MPS) has confirmed there are positive COVID-19 cases within their school district, with at least one related to the football program. Their varsity football team, the Eagles, were set to play the Malcom Clippers next Friday, Aug. 28th, at 7:30 p.m. at Malcom High School. However, after Milford’s designated health department performed contact tracing, some student athletes were advised to quarantine until Saturday, Aug. 29th.

At this time, the Eagles are temporarily holding off on practice as well.

MPS Superintendent Kevin Wingard commented that it was a combination of positive cases and contact tracing that led them to cancel the game. He said with a school their size, “when you loose a few students and student athletes, it changes the whole team”.

He also said they are open to rescheduling the game for a later date as long as both teams are willing.
