MLB Draft: Two Huskers, Norris third baseman picked on Day 2

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The 2024 MLB Draft is underway, and talent from Nebraska is getting noticed on Day 2.
Nebraska junior catcher Josh Caron was selected Monday afternoon in the fourth round and 121st overall by the Seattle Mariners.
With the fourth-round selection, Caron became the highest overall selection of a Husker catcher since 1985, when Bill McGuire was picked 27th overall by the Mariners.
With their 4th-round pick (No. 121 overall), the @Mariners select @HuskerBaseball catcher Josh Caron, No. 172 on the Top 250 Draft Prospects list.

Senior pitcher Brett Sears was selected in the seventh round and 221st overall by the Atlanta Braves.
Sears became the fifth Husker pitcher under Will Bolt to be drafted in the first 10 rounds, joining Spencer Schwellenbach, Cade Povich, Emmett Olson and Jace Kaminska.

Norris third baseman Kale Fountain was selected in the fifth round and 151st overall by the San Diego Padres.
The previous Channel 8 Athlete of the Week is ranked No. 121 in the Top 250 Draft Prospects list.

Fountain is currently committed to LSU, so it’s not clear whether he will sign with the Padres.
