Mom seeks protection order against Lancaster County deputy who hit 9-year-old

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A woman is seeking a protection order against Lancaster County’s chief sheriff’s deputy, according to court documents filed Wednesday.

In May, Lancaster County Chief Deputy Ben Houchin struck a 9-year-old girl in his personal vehicle.

She was hospitalized with injuries that were not life-threatening.

Days after the crash, the Lincoln Police Department said Houchin would not be cited.

The girl’s mother – Tiarrah Moton – later filed a civil lawsuit against Houchin.

In a petition filed Wednesday, Moton wrote that Houchin has been harassing her family since May 10.

“I’m tired of quietly living in fear of this man,” Moton wrote in the petition.  “I just want it to stop so my kids can be normal again.”

Sheriff Terry Wagner said Thursday that an internal investigation is underway to determine if any sheriff’s office policies were violated.

A Lancaster County District Court judge has set a court hearing for Oct. 26.
