‘Mommy influencers’ create undo pressure, according to study by UNL prof

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A new study says social media sites create a toxic culture for mothers.

The research published in “Computers in Human Behavior” was co-led by professor Ciera Kirkpatrick of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

Sites like Instagram and TikTok give “mommy influencers” an easy way to show idealized images of motherhood, which can increase anxiety and envy, the study found.

This leads to feeling extra pressure to be perfect and can be detrimental to mental health, researchers say.

Doctors suggest finding a balance in the way you approach social media, along with not portraying a false sense of perfection in your own pictures and posts.
