More 90s on the way; Warmest Labor Day in over 20 years

Lots of sunshine is expected for not just southeast Nebraska but the entire state and region.  Humidity should remain below typical August levels.  Both of those things will allow temperatures to climb in to the upper 80°s to near 90°s Tuesday afternoon.

If Lincoln should hit 90° Tuesday – current high temperature forecast: 88° – this would be the city’s 54th day to reach 90° this year.  Many days ahead of the year-to-date normal of 36.

Don’t worry, if Lincoln does not reach 90° Tuesday there are plenty of more opportunities.  In fact, I have six of the next ten days reaching 90° in my 10 Day Outlook.

The warmest day looks to be Labor Day.  Medium-range computer models suggest a cold front will be moving through the state Sunday and Monday.  As the front approaches southeast Nebraska Monday, air will be compressed ahead of the cold front.  This will lead to compressional warming which will aid the temperature reaching the mid-90°s.  This is notable as the current forecast high – 95° – would make this the warmest Labor Day since 2001.  For those wondering, Lincoln’s record high temperature on Labor Day is 101° set in 1975.
