More charges filed against Grand Island man accused of assaulting children at church

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A Grand Island man is facing four more charges of sexual assault.
In a Thursday court filing, prosecutors charged 24-year-old Milton Castanon Jr. with two additional counts each of first-degree and third-degree sexual assault.
Castanon was arrested in July after allegations that he had sexually assaulted two children at a Grand Island church in 2018.
He was a relative of the pastor, who court documents allege wanted to delay reporting the assaults to give Castanon time to return to Guatemala.
Castanon was initially charged with two counts of first-degree sexual assault and two counts of third-degree sexual assault.
The new charges are for assaults that took place between December 2014 and June 2017, according to court documents.
Prosecutors haven’t said where the assaults took place or provided the ages of the victims.
A preliminary hearing on the new charges is set for July 31.
Castanon has pleaded not guilty to the original charges.
His trial is scheduled to begin Sept. 9.
