More March melting with warmer, windy days

More snow will melt today for the areas that still have it – south Lincoln has lost just about all the snowpack already, seeing a sharp cutoff in snow amounts across the county.

North Lincoln and northern Lancaster County had 5-8″ compared to south Lincoln’s 1-2″.

But snow cover will quickly diminish with it being March!

March Melting

Melting snow in March is easier because of a higher sun angle, so the energy coming from the sun is more concentrated. That makes for warmer ground temperatures. This also means the air doesn’t need to be above freezing to start the melting process as the warmer ground is already above freezing.

More clouds in the morning with a southwest breeze will make for a mild start to Friday. Eventually a front comes through later in the morning, driving a gusty northwest wind.

Car wash lines will continue to be long into the weekend! It’ll be a great opportunity to get rid of all that dirt the snow left behind! Drought conditions in southwest states like New Mexico and Texas with high winds kicked up dust right into our snowstorm.

Carwash Forecast

It doesn’t look like we’ll get a free car wash from any widespread rain soon. Tough.

Only small, spotty spring rain chances are in the forecast through the weekend.

Higher winds return Sunday as well after another passing front.

Weekend temperatures in the 60s will be above average! The end of March next week continues to look above average as well with warmer weather and perhaps more rain chances by the end of the week.
