More severe storms possible later on Sunday, then again Monday and Tuesday

A few more rounds of stronger thunderstorms are possible that pose a severe risk Sunday evening, Monday and Tuesday.

After some stronger storms cleared our area to the northeast, light rain continues early Sunday morning. This round will be important to monitor because the longer the rain and cloud cover sticks around, the lower the threat of severe storms with another round anticipated for Sunday evening.

Above is one of the latest versions of Stormcast through the end of Sunday, with the window of severe weather expected from 6 p.m. to midnight.

Again, these storms will only be possible if we see enough clearing through the afternoon to help the environment recover from the morning round. The latest update from the Storm Prediction Center has a Slight (Level 2 of 5) risk for much of western and southern Nebraska for Sunday evening.

Hail, damaging wind and a tornado or two will be possible.

As for Monday, storms look to hold off until later in the day. The timing of possible severe storms would fall after about 6 p.m. Monday evening into early Tuesday, threatening hail over 1″, gusts up to 60 mph and a tornado or two.

There is a Slight (Level 2 of 5) risk for all of southeast Nebraska on Monday for this reason.

Then on Tuesday, the severe threat really increases toward Iowa and Missouri. Thunderstorms expected during the late morning into the afternoon could pose a similar threat to Sunday and Monday’s rounds – yet it will also be dependent on how Sunday and Monday play out.
