More sunshine, but bitterly cold

After a final push of snow showers late Wednesday, skies cleared out by Thursday morning. The attention now turns to the bitter cold sweeping through the state.

Wind Chill Warnings are in effect for western Nebraska, including Broken Bow and O’Neill. In those areas, frostbite times for exposed skin could be as little as five minutes.

Wind Chill Advisories are in effect for areas farther southeast. Frostbite times in these areas could be as little as 30 minutes for exposed skin. Lincoln is included. All of these alerts expire at Noon Thursday.

Wind Chill Alerts

Wind chills will be below zero for much of the morning, perhaps rising above 0° during the afternoon in Lincoln. For areas north of Lincoln, there’s a chance that wind chills remain below zero all day on Thursday.

Hour by Hour

Actual air temperatures will likely be stuck in the teens for most locations, but some of our southern communities may reach the lower-20s.

Thursday Forecast

While Thursday features a lot more in the way of sunshine in southern Nebraska, clouds do return overnight Thursday. By Friday morning, some light snow showers can’t be ruled out across the state.

Stormcast Friday Morning

After Friday, more spring-like weather arrives. 40s and 50s return for high temperatures over the weekend. In fact, by Sunday night, we have a chance to see some thunderstorm activity.
