More than 400 Non-Profits ask for donations on Give to Lincoln Day

Lincoln is lucky to have hundreds of non–profits serving the community.
But Thursday, it’s your turn to help them, by making a donation during Give to Lincoln Day.
From those that help the homeless, like Fresh Start, a shelter for homeless women.
“We are a really vital part of the safety net for Lincoln. A lot of times people haven’t heard of us, and that’s all the more reason for people to check us out on Give to Lincoln Day,” Monica Zinke, executive director for Fresh Start said.
Zinke said they hope to raise $36,000 to support their programming.

“It’ll support a safe shelter, food, our 24 hour staff, support everything we do here to help women get back on their feet,” Zinke said.
There’s also many ways to help Lincoln children with your donations.
Big Brothers, Big Sisters, a program that provides kids with adult mentors in the community is asking for donations as well.
“As a non-profit, we really rely on their donations to keep our doors open,” Jalin Gerdes, with Big Brothers, Big Sisters said.

They currently have 145 Big/Little matches and more than 100 kids on the waitlist.
“All our mentors make a huge impact on our littles– it just takes one person to help direct a young person’s life,” Gerdes said.
If you’re looking to donate in the name of Lincoln animals, there are many options as well.
Dolly’s Legacy Animal Rescue, a foster-based rescue, said they’re in desperate need of donations.
“We turn down more animals than we can say yes to, so the more donations we get the more animals we can save,” Amy Van Gerpen, with Dolly’s Legacy said.

Your donations to Dolly’s Legacy go directly to vet expenses, which cost the rescue more than $200,000 last year.
“We’re the champion of the under dog,” Van Gerpen said. “We don’t hesitate or shy away from animal that’s sick we gravitate toward many with heartworm getting treatment, pregnant mamas, animals that have been shot and need amputations all kinds of sad situations.”
These are great examples of organizations looking for donations.
