Morning storms possible, yet getting into the hotter part of the week
With early morning possible storms, there is a low-end risk for severe weather. Much of eastern Nebraska is still included in a Marginal (Level 1 of 5) risk for some isolated potential at some severe wind gusts mainly.
An early bowing line of storms was seen diving south out of South Dakota along the Missouri River Wednesday morning.
Nothing has been severe for quite some time overnight, but we still can’t rule out some gusty winds and heavy downpours at this line tries to hold together across far eastern Nebraska. The timing toward Lincoln and Omaha would bring the best storm chances during the morning commute, between about 7-9 a.m. Wednesday.
Then we’re heating up for the hottest days of this week. Not quite 90° in Lincoln just yet today, but we’ll likely see the 90s after today. With higher humidity today, the heat index will be nearing 100.
It’s hard to believe we are almost a full week into August without seeing a day in the 90s. Until I looked into the data over the past 25 years.
Looking at Lincoln’s longest streaks in August to get to 90, the last time it took over a week was back in 2020 – not that long ago. In 2017 though, we NEVER got to 90 in Lincoln.
We’ll likely hit 90 by the 7th day of August tomorrow. Hottest day looks to be Friday in the mid and almost upper 90s.
Knowing the high humidity, count on it feeling much hotter with “feels like” temperatures in the lower 100s both Thursday and Friday especially.
Temperatures will cool a bit more over the weekend with storm chances toward Sunday.
