LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A mosquito pool in west-central Nebraska has tested positive for West Nile virus, officials say.

The Two Rivers Public Health Department announced Tuesday that the virus was detected in Dawson County.

The department said it has also seen a confirmed case of West Nile in a horse, but there have been no human cases.

The district covers Dawson, Buffalo, Gosper, Phelps, Kearney, Harlan and Franklin counties.

People can get West Nile through mosquito bites.

Most cases are minor, health officials said, but fatigue and weakness can last for weeks or months for some.

Symptoms include fever, headache, body aches and vomiting.
