Mostly Sunny Skies Following Thursday Morning Storms

The latest update from the U.S. Drought Monitor continues to show improvement across southeastern Nebraska after this weekend’s storms. Areas of moderate drought have been resolved in Lancaster and Saline counties. Improvement has been seen to a swath of abnormally dry conditions that previously spanned across Adams, Clay, and Fillmore counties.
After a few morning showers we should see mostly sunny skies this afternoon with high temperatures in the lower 90s for the Capital City. Windy for most of Thursday, with a strong southerly breeze between 10 and 15 miles per hour, gusting to 25.

Isolated strong showers and thunderstorms will be possible later tonight and into the early morning hours on Friday for western and central Nebraska.
There is a MARGINAL RISK (Level 1 out of 5) for severe weather for western and central portions of the state where we could see quarter size hail and 60 mile per hour wind gusts with this evening’s storms.
Low temperatures tonight will fall into the lower 70s with mostly clear skies. Strong winds continue overnight out of the south between 10 and 15 miles per hour, gusting to 20.

Temperatures climb over the coming days with a HEAT ADVISORY in place from 11 a.m. CDT until 8 p.m. CDT on Friday, August 15, and Saturday, August 16. Heat index values could reach up to 110 degrees.
High temperatures on Friday remind us that we still have a few more weeks of summer with highs in the mid-to-upper 90s. Mostly sunny skies to close out the work week with strong winds out of the south remain for most of the area.

After a few days of hot and humid conditions, storm chances return Sunday evening. This will lead us out of the 90s during the early parts of next week. Temperatures will remain near average with mostly sunny skies for the remainder of the forecast.
