Mother Nature flexes her muscles, buries Beatrice in snow

BEATRICE, Neb. (KLKN) – With a temperature tumble on the way, families in Beatrice are doing their best to fight through the latest snow storm.

Beatrice was in a blizzard warning much of Saturday night and into Sunday, and the town ended up getting five and a half inches of snow.

Jenny Montag, who has lived in Beatrice for 30 years, told Channel 8 they are just waiting for the storm to blow over.

“Not feeling good. Started last night with a thin layer of ice which was a little tricky to get around once I got home. Woke up to this,” Montag said. “Shoveling is not a real fun thing and it just blows over pretty quick. My driveway and walkway were cleared at around 10 and when I left to come to work around noon, it was already covered again.”

A lot of plow trucks are on the roads, working non-stop to help drivers make it safely to their destinations.

Plenty of people have been out today clearing their sidewalks, but with the wind, it may take a while to see fully clear roads and walkways.

“With the cold weather it will be quite a few days,” she said. “It will depend on what happens overnight with the blowing and everything.”

Montag said although there is still snow and ice on the ground, she is trying to keep up with her normal routine.

To prepare for the weather, she double-checked her supplies and stocked up on necessities.

Although a few stores in Beatrice were already short on milk and bread yesterday evening, it did not impact Montag who only stopped for what they needed.

“I made sure I had a fresh bag of ice melt. I made sure I knew where my scrapers were, our gas tanks were full before we parked for last night,” she said.

Beatrice locals said this is “just part of winter in Nebraska,” and hope to see the roads clear soon.
