Motorcycle crash in Lincoln leaves man in critical condition

One man has been sent to the hospital after a motorcycle wreck at Yolanda Avenue and Cornhusker Highway in Lincoln Wednesday evening.

Police say two motorcycles hit a pickup as it was turning in front of them. Although one of the motorcyclists had minor injuries, the other is currently in critical condition.

This is the fourth motorcycle crash in Lincoln since Saturday.

“We just ask that the public in general drives safely and be aware of their surroundings at all times and follow the rules of the road,” said Lincoln Police Sgt. Derek Dittman.

The man driving the pickup was handcuffed and taken into custody. Police say it was for further questioning.

The investigation is on-going.

Update:

LPD reports that the driver of the motorcycle involved in the accident remains in the hospital with critical injuries.

LPD conducted a motor vehicle collision investigation, including interviewing witnesses.

The initial investigation suggests that two motorcycles were eastbound on Cornhusker Highway at a high rate of speed and “splitting the lanes” as they passed other eastbound vehicles.

A pick-up truck was traveling eastbound on a service road that runs parallel to the south of Cornhusker Highway.

Initial reports suggest that the truck turned from the service road onto Cornhusker Highway, at which point one of the motorcyclists collided with the truck.

LPD investigators believe that alcohol was a factor in this investigation.

This investigation is less than twenty-fours old, meaning that investigators are still re-constructing the collision, collecting forensic evidence, processing the crime scene, interviewing witnesses, and consulting with the county attorney to determine what charges may be appropriate.

At this time, no one in the incident has been cited, pending the conclusion of the investigation.
