Motorcyclist tops 150 mph in 30-minute pursuit east of Lincoln, patrol says
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A motorcyclist was arrested early Friday morning after a chase east of Lincoln.
Travis Knipp, 29, was arrested on suspicion of flight to avoid arrest, willful reckless driving and numerous traffic violations.
Around 11:45 p.m. Thursday, a trooper with the Nebraska State Patrol saw a motorcycle with no license plates speeding on Interstate 80 near the 56th Street exit.
According to the state patrol, the trooper tried to pull Knipp over, but he refused.
Knipp initially slowed down to 75 mph, but after a few minutes, accelerated to a high speed.
According to the patrol, he reached speeds higher than 150 mph and passed multiple vehicles on the shoulder as he continued fleeing east on I-80.
The state patrol’s helicopter tracked Knipp as he exited onto Highway 66, and the chase on the ground stopped.
Knipp drove on various roads in Saunders County, according to the patrol, then started driving back toward Lincoln.
After 30 minutes, authorities said Knipp’s bike ran out of gas on Highway 77 between Wahoo and Ceresco.
Helicopter pilots directed troopers on the ground to that location, and Knipp was taken into custody without further incident.
He was lodged in the Lancaster County Jail.
