Much cooler today with breezy conditions 2/1/2022

Tuesday Morning Weather Update February 1, 2022

We are off to a chilly start this morning with temperatures in the 30s and wind chill values in the 20s for most of southeast Nebraska. Skies are fairly clear right now, but that will quickly change as we head further into the day today. Clouds will increase and eventually become almost overcast by the evening, further limiting our warming. Wind gusts also increase and turn gusty with wind gusts around and above 30 mph at times. Thanks to the gusty conditions and clouds, highs today will struggle to warm with most of the area falling short of the 40s. Some of you might warm into the low 40s if you are lucky, but it isn’t likely. Breezy conditions stick around into overnight tonight and temperatures drop into the low teens. Some snow flurries are possible in far southeastern Nebraska early tomorrow morning and a trace of snow is likely close to I-80, but this isn’t looking likely. Dry air in southeast Nebraska will limit our snow potential, resulting in the best chance for accumulation to be closer to the Kansas border. Some of the area could stay completely dry even during the day tomorrow due to the dry air. If you want to see a lot of snow tomorrow, you will have to head south and into Kansas. Nebraska mainly gets colder air the next few days with highs in the upper teens. Temperatures don’t start to recover until Friday and the weekend, when most of the area finally warms above freezing.
