Much warmer to end the week

We are in for a good warm up the rest of the week, especially over the next two days. Winds have shifted to be out of the south early Wednesday morning, but these winds will be increasing as we head into the 9 a.m. hour of the morning.

These winds out of the south will be transporting unseasonably warm air into our region.

Lincoln Today Wind Gusts

Here’s a look at the boost in afternoon temperatures. After temperatures hover in the upper 20s in the morning, we’ll be efficiently warming into the 50s around lunchtime and a decent chance to see 60° in town for a high temperature. Two weeks later to the day, we’re back to the 60s.

Lincoln Today Hour By Hour

And then on Thursday, we’re even warmer! In fact, we’ll be approaching record temperatures for many on December 7th. Both in Lincoln and Omaha, we’ll be getting close to record highs, while Beatrice has a great chance at breaking the old record of 58° from the late 1900s, with a forecast high of 62°.

Record High Three Cities

It wasn’t all that long ago that we set new record highs in December, either. Two years ago we had a very warm December in which we set three new record highs including Christmas Eve.

Last Time Record

We are in a pattern of seeing precipitation in the early first half of the weekend, and this upcoming weekend appears no different. Systems are forming to our south and being steered just far enough north for us to keep an eye on potential precipitation. This next round shows that we have a chance at seeing the northern edge of the system once again, with chances first for rain Friday night then snow Friday night into Saturday.

Timing is still being worked out, and amounts appear to be on the lighter end again with this event.
