Multiple departments fight grass fire in Gage County
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Several fire departments are battling a grass fire in Gage County on Thursday.
The blaze is south of Wymore near U.S. Highway 77 and Nebraska Highway 8, authorities said.
The Gage County Sheriff’s Office urged the public to stay out of the area and to be prepared to evacuate.
Six fire departments responded to the scene: Wymore; Blue Springs; Barneston; Odell; Oketo, Kansas; and Axtell, Kansas.
Wymore Fire and Rescue asked farmers to bring their tractors and discs, but by 3 p.m., the department said no more help was needed.
Grass fires sparked across Nebraska on Thursday. The state is in a dry spell, and high winds have spread fires quickly.
A combine started a fire that burned 120 acres in Lancaster County.
And in Cedar County, the Randolph Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department said it responded to two field fires back to back.
