The Storm Prediction Center has issued a Slight Risk (Level 2 out of 5) of severe weather for central and northeastern Nebraska on Friday. The primary threats will be large hail and damaging winds, with isolated tornadoes possible as storms initiate during the late evening and overnight hours tonight. Have a way to be alerted of severe weather during the overnight hours.
The latest runs of Stormcast show storms in our viewing area early morning on Saturday.
Chances for severe weather continue on Saturday with the Storm Prediction Center issuing a Slight Risk for much of western Nebraska. Afternoon storms will be capable of large hail and damaging winds.
Stormcast then shows these storms moving across central Nebraska on Saturday evening. The environment is not expected to be as favorable as storms move to the east, but large hail and damaging winds will remain a possibility into the overnight hours on Saturday and into Sunday. Current timing for storms in the Capital City will be late Saturday night through early Sunday morning.
Finally, most of the state is currently under a Marginal Risk (Level 1 out of 5) for severe weather on Sunday. While it is still a few days out, large hail and damaging winds look to be the main concerns at this time.
Forecast:
Temperatures tonight will drop to the upper 60s and lower 70s with a southerly breeze. Partly cloudy skies and chances for showers and thunderstorms will be possible throughout the overnight hours.
Any Friday evening plans in the Capital City should remain dry before storm chances move into the region early Saturday morning. Partly cloudy skies and lows in the upper 70s.
Warmer temperatures continue their march into the region on Saturday with high temperatures in the upper 80s and lower 90s. Mostly sunny skies with scattered storm chances throughout the day and into the evening. Winds will be out of the east at 5 to 10 miles per hour.
We should break 90 degrees in Lincoln with mostly sunny skies on Saturday. Storms will be possible late Saturday into early Sunday.
Storm chances will continue through the middle part of next week, with high temperatures in the mid-to-upper 90s. Storm chances look to clear out for the 2nd Annual KLKN School Supply Drive on Thursday, but temperatures will be warm in the mid-90s. The heat looks to stick around through next weekend, with heat indices between 100-110 degrees possible for nearly all of next week.
