‘My heart is broken in a million pieces’: Family grieves for slain Lincoln man at vigil

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The grief was heavy for the family and friends of Gregory Little Jr. on Monday as they remembered his legacy at a vigil.

Little was shot and killed at a Lincoln bar early Sunday morning.

His older sister, Kelyna Taylor, was with him that night.

“My brother had dropped his phone,” Taylor said. “He reached for his phone, and then the security guard shot him.”

Police said four shots were fired, and they indicated that Little was shot at least three times.

Vernadine Taylor, Little’s mother, said it never should have happened.

“They shot him down like a rabid dog,” she said, adding, “One bullet put him down. Why did you shoot him three more times?”

The vigil on Monday night served as a way to remember Little.

His family said he was always smiling, always happy and always there for those he loved.

He was a father of 10, a loving son and brother, and an aspiring restaurant owner.

Little started a food truck called Lula Mae’s Kitchen, which serves soul food.

Terrence Tucker, Vernadine’s husband, said he would feed people for free who needed it.

“He’s a family man, a loving man, and he’s a good person,” Tucker said.

As they released balloons in Little’s favorite colors – red and black – his children held one another tight.

Kelyna Taylor said she’s hurting.

“My heart is broken in a million pieces,” she said. “I don’t know how to go on without my brother.”

His mother said she will fight for justice for Little.

“I just need justice for my son,” she said. “And I will get justice if it takes the last penny of my life. Until I die, he will get justice.”
