‘My heart is just full’: Seward community holds fundraisers for Jamie Hagen’s family

SEWARD, Neb. (KLKN) – People from all over eastern Nebraska are holding fundraisers in support Jamie Hagen’s family.

Hagen was killed in Seward earlier this month. Authorities said she was shot by her ex-fiance.

She leaves behind two young daughters.

Belinda Hagen, Jamie’s stepmother, said it is so amazing to have the community wrap their arms around the family.

“It’s been a lot of communication to manage, but at the same time my heart is just full,” she said. “Because not only did the family come together and help support all of the events that we’re trying to do for her services, but the community sharing their stories in group chats or Facebook Messenger or Instagram pictures. Without all of that, I’m not sure that in the short two weeks that we’ve been walking through this event that we would have been able to get through it without their support.”

The events taking place over the next few weeks include a silent auction, a powerlifting event and a bake sale. Bracelets are also being sold.

All of the proceeds will go toward Hagen’s daughters and their futures.

Although the main focus is taking care of the girls, the groups will continue to bring awareness to domestic violence.

“I don’t think that we can sit idly by knowing that these events continue to happen,” Belinda Hagen said. “We are in active communication with key members of the community to establish potentially a nonprofit.”

More information about these events is on the “Justice for Jamie” Facebook group.
