‘My heart sunk’: Camera holding hundreds of memories stolen from Lincoln dad

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A Lincoln father is searching for his stolen camera, which holds hundreds of memories.

Normally, Jason Lemon said he wouldn’t be able to afford a nice camera, but he and his son removed snow for two winters, saving up to buy a Canon EOS Rebel.

And over the past four years, Lemon has used it to document his son’s high school experience.

“He always wanted a nice camera because he plays a lot of sports so we got the camera,” Lemon said. “We’ve been taking it all over the United States, following him to baseball tournaments, here with tennis tournaments. It’s something that’s got such good memories on it. School events, other things. It’s just heartbreaking that it’s gone.”

On Wednesday, Lemon took his camera to his son’s tennis tournament at Woods Park.

After the meet, he took his chair and cooler back to the car, accidentally leaving the camera in his backpack on a picnic table.

“I harp on my kids, ‘Don’t forget your shoes, don’t forget your water bottle, don’t forget,'” he said. “And guess what I did? I forgot the backpack.”

The next day, a neighbor found the bag and returned it to staff at Woods Park. But the camera and SD card were gone.

“You know, my heart sunk because I thought of all the special things we’ve done together,” Lemon said. “It’s just sadness that I’ll never be able to replace those pictures again unless somebody finds the camera and brings it back to us.”

Lemon was planning to use them at his son’s graduation next May.

But now that it’s been taken, he doesn’t know what to do.

He has a message for whoever has the camera:

“If you’re out there and you’re seeing this, I know that camera probably means a lot to you, but that SD card, the chip inside, has so many good memories. I want to get it back somehow, some way.”
