Narcan administered to LPD officer after potential exposure to fentanyl-laced heroin

A Lincoln Police Officer was exposed to what the department believes may be fentanyl-laced heroin during the search of a suspect’s wallet.
It happened Tuesday evening near 13th and E street. The officer was arresting 57-year-old Cornelius Moore for an outstanding warrant when he came into contact with a white and gray substance in Moore’s wallet.
Officer Angela Sands said in the process of testing the substance the officer started feeling tingling in his arms and his heart rate increasing.
He called for help and a deputy with Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office came and administered Narcan, an opiate antidote, to the officer.
Sands said the officer immediately started feeling better and went to the hospital for observation but was able to return to work shortly after.
This was the first time Narcan has been used on a Lincoln Police Officer, Sands said.
Moore was arrested on a warrant for failure to appear and possession of a controlled substance.
Sands said police will not be able to confirm whether or not it was fentanyl until the substance undergoes testing.
