NASA astronaut lands at Lincoln school to share space stories
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Jeanette Epps recently returned from 235 days in space and decided to share her experience with Lincoln middle schoolers on Thursday afternoon.
The kids of Goodrich Middle School said they were thrilled to be a part of a “once-in-a-lifetime” opportunity to meet a real astronaut.
“I was hoping that the kids saw someone who potentially looks like them that’s a goofy, normal human being that got to do some extraordinary things,” Epps said.
Epps spent eight months at the International Space Station to do research and maintenance.
She was involved in an experiment called “Immunity Assay.”
The experiment’s goal is to understand how long-term spaceflight affects the immune system and to develop tools to help astronauts stay healthy.
“We’re experiments ourselves,” Epps said.
Her next landing will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Strategic Air Command & Aerospace Museum for a presentation with Nebraska astronaut Clay Anderson.
