National Adoption Day

It's national adoption day, and the separate juvenile court of Lancaster County opened its doors to finalize adoptions in the capital city.

52 children were officially adopted Today and Health and human Services says that's is the highest number ever in  Lincoln and the highest in the state . 

Today Channel 8 Met with the isley family who is adopting their 7th child, 2 year old Rashad.

Although he was already a part of his adoptive family, Health and Human services says this is a memorable day for children and their families.

“Its permanency for these kids,” said Jeff Schmidt of Health and Humaan Services. “Children really thrive best in a permanent, safe, stable family that's what today is all about, getting them officially and legally part of the family.”

Judy Isely says, there is no greater gift than giving child a loving home. “Every child deserves a family and we thinkg that families are the greatest thing. We want all children, it would nice if everyone would adopt, we think adoption is a wonderful thing. They are just like our own flesh and blood and we just love them to death.”

All 10 of the isley children plus extended members of the family met in the lancaster county juvenile court to witness rashad's adoption.

Jillian and Hunter Isley were adopted from Vietnam by the Isley's in 1994. They say through adoption, their new brother is getting a great gift.

Health and Human Services says while it was a great event, there are still more than 100 children in the southeastern part of the state waiting to be adopted.
