National Night Out brings Lincoln community and law enforcement together
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Neighborhoods across Lincoln on Tuesday celebrated National Night Out, an event that promotes healthy relationships among neighbors, law enforcement, first responders and local agencies.
LPD participated in different events around the city to meet with residents.
“We just don’t show up when they are having a bad day,” LPD Officer Chad Hein said. “We are here when they are having a good day, too.”
LPD’s Southwest Team partnered with the Lincoln Parks and Recreation Department and Lincoln Fire & Rescue.
They gathered at the F Street Community Center to spend time with kids and community members, making hot dogs, playing together and having a good time.
“We have a lot of middle school kids that come to the center during the day,” said the center’s director, Jean Gerlach. “We just want them to know that this is a friendly place, this is a safe place and that the people around us — officers and the firefighters — they are helpers.”
National Night Out is celebrated annually across the nation on the first Tuesday of August.
