LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Five tornadoes were confirmed from Thursday’s storms in Nebraska.
The National Weather Service of Hastings conducted damage surveys on Friday across south-central Nebraska to assess tornado reports.
All reported tornadoes were brief.
HILDRETH TORNADO (EF-1)
An EF-1 tornado was on the ground for just over 6 miles for about 10 minutes.
Early in the path, cornstalks were found in a fence and power lines, according to the weather service.
The tornado continued, overturning two pivots before getting to a farmstead.
There, part of the garage wall was pushed from its foundation. Damage was done to windows and trees, too, while the top of a grain bin was torn off.
Maximum winds were estimated at 90 mph due to the damage to the grain bin.
BERTRAND TORNADO (EF-0)
A brief tornado occurred in northwest Phelps County and was on the ground for just under 2 miles.
Another center irrigation pivot was overturned before the tornado rolled across a cattle feedlot.
At the feed lot, the tornado damaged some trees, caused minor roof damage, blew out vehicle windows and lifted the cover from a small generator.
PROSSER TORNADO (EF-0)
A short tornado occurred just east of Prosser in Adams County. This EF-0 primarily damaged corn in its path, as it was only on the ground for just over a mile.
OVERTON AND ROSEDALE TORNADOES (EF-U)
Two tornadoes near Overton and Rosedale were given a “U” rating because it is “unknown” how strong they were due to lack of damage.
A tornado reported near the Overton exit on I-80 was found by storm chasers driving on the interstate. No rating nor wind speed was assigned, so the location was also estimated, according to the National Weather Service.
A rope tornado was reported by the public near Rosedale Road. Due to a lack of damage indicators, its location and time were estimated.
