NDEE investigates AltEn’s potential environmental impact

MEAD, Neb. (KLKN) — The University of Nebraska is helping the Mead community remain vigilant of any environmental impacts the ethanol facility, AltEn, may have had on the area. This comes after the plant was found to be improperly disposing of waste.

The Nebraska Department of Environment and Energy (NDEE) has conducted additional sampling of six public water supply wells, four private wells, and soil from Mead’s public park.
The public water wells include two at UNL’s Eastern Nebraska Research and Extension Center, two at the Nebraska National Guard’s training site, and two connected to Mead’s public water system.

The private wells were selected based on their proximity to AltEn.
The test results will be available on NDEE’s public records portal, under Facility ID 84069.
