NDOT encourages drivers to prepare for winter driving

With fresh snow already hitting Lincoln, the Nebraska Department of Transportation has some reminder for drivers out in wintry weather.
NDOT says they want all drivers in the state to be prepared for winter storms.
They say last season was one of the worst on record, in the state.
And as winter storms approach, travelers should stay alert through Nebraska 511.
The website and system are available 24/7 through a smartphone app or on the website.
Drivers are also encouraged to dial 5-1-1 for information within the stae.

There’s also a plow tracker o the website.
NDOT reminds all drivers to take their time getting to places, and if conditions are bad, to stay home if possible or limit travel.
Drivers should also have an extra pair of warm clothes, hats, gloves and coats in their cars.
Some other advice they offer, is giving yourself plenty of time to stop.
Never pass a plow, it’s unlawful to follow a plow closer than 100 feet.
