Nearing record highs this weekend in Nebraska

Thursday is still expected to be quite warm across southeast Nebraska. But we’ve reached the time of year where a jacket or an extra layer may be needed in the morning when it’s cooler and more comfortable, yet you’re shedding that layer by the afternoon.

Today a good breeze out of the northeast should even make the afternoon temperatures feel a bit more comfortable than yesterday.

Jess Day Planner Today Vertical

Warmest temperatures will be closer to Kansas and Missouri today, with highs ranging from the upper 70s to the lower 80s.

Dma Today High

That’ll be anywhere from about five to 15 degrees warmer than averages at this point in early October that are in the lower 70s.

Dma Compared Average

Not feeling like fall anytime soon, we’ll face an extremely warm (rather hot) day on Saturday looking ahead. Temperatures will be headed toward the mid to almost upper 90s, challenging the hottest temperatures ever seen in Lincoln in October in history: 98° in 1947, 96° in 1938.

4day Temps

So not only will the daily record for October 5th be within reach on Saturday, but also the hottest temperature ever recorded in the month of October. Keep in mind this will mean for a very hot, sweaty Husker game!

Saturday Records

It’ll also be blustery on Saturday with winds out of the south gusting around 40-45 mph for most of the state, leading to another day of extreme fire danger.
