Nebraska advocate groups speak on economic instability in domestic abuse situations
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The Nebraska Coalition and Women’s Fund of Omaha held a webinar to recognize domestic violence awareness month.
Both groups focused on how economic insecurity can impact domestic violence victims.
The advocate groups spoke about how independence in finances gives victims options.
According to both groups, research showed one in five Nebraska women experience more than 50 instances of physical violence from an intimate partner in their lifetime.
The Women’s Fund of Omaha released a new report showing a financial gap in Nebraska. According to the report, women earn almost $17,000 less a year than men, are 13% live at or near poverty and are facing housing costs 19% higher than men.
Nebraska Coalition and Women’s Fund of Omaha called for change in order to give women a way out in these situations.
