LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Nebraska AG, Doug Peterson, is among those calling on Congress to pass the Military Justice Improvement and Increasing Prevention Act of 2021.

Peterson and Illinois AG, Kwame Raoul, led the bipartisan coalition of 29 attorneys general calling on Congress.

the Act would change how the military investigates and prosecutes sexual assault and domestic violence crimes.

The act requires military personnel to receive sexual assault prevention training and instructs prosecutors on proper conduct and handling of sexual assault and domestic violence cases.

According to the press release, a small percentage of service members report their assault, due to the fear of retaliation.

According to the press release, the Act would be the largest change to the military justice system in the last 70 years.
