Nebraska AG ramps up THC crackdown, accuses 82 Lincoln shops of selling illegal products
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Nebraska Attorney General Mike Hilgers on Wednesday accused dozens of stores in Lincoln of illegally selling products with too much THC.
Hilgers’ office sent 82 cease-and-desist letters to smoke shops in Lincoln, bringing the total to over 200 issued in a statewide crackdown.
The letters demand that the stores stop selling the products.

The Attorney General’s Office said over 90% of the products it inspected were mislabeled.
“This industry has shown itself to be completely irresponsible,” Hilgers said in a statement. “It operates without regard to the health or safety of Nebraskans by selling these poisonous and mislabeled products into the Capital City.”
But not every shop is in the crosshairs.
Some, like CBD American Shaman, said they’ve worked hard to stay on the right side of the law.
“Our in-house chemist batch tests every product, so nothing comes out of that facility without being tested,” owner Brandon Ford said.

Ford said a lot of store owners aren’t familiar with all the laws.
“Stores should be compliant, and if he can prove that they’re not compliant … then more power to him,” he said.
Ford said he knows some shop owners who have received the letters.
Some of them signed the letter and pulled those products, while others are fighting back.

Ford said some stores give the industry a bad name.
“People are doing it the right way,” he said. “The smoke shops or vape shops that do it the wrong way or are bad actors, don’t know what they’re selling, I would just hope the public is smart enough to know the difference between good product and bad product.”
Ford said his shop has customers sign a form acknowledging what they’re buying and that they’re at least 21.
