Nebraska authorities identify 17-year-old killed by police in Columbus

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Authorities have identified a 17-year-old Columbus boy who was killed by police.

The Nebraska State Patrol said Thursday that Chase Ditter died after being shot by an officer.

The shooting happened about 1 p.m. Tuesday during a welfare check on Ditter, according to the patrol.

Columbus Police had received a report that he was threatening self-harm.

Officers found him inside the home with a knife, the patrol said.

One of the officers fired their gun, hitting Ditter. Another officer used a Taser.

Ditter died at the scene.

Both officers involved have been placed on administrative leave.

The state patrol said its investigation is ongoing.
