Nebraska baseball strives to be ‘toughest team in the country’ in 2024

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Nebraska baseball is 20 days away from opening its season against Baylor in Arlington, Texas.
At a press conference Friday, head coach Will Bolt said he has high aspirations for this year’s squad.
“We’re always going to try to be the toughest team in the country,” he said.
Bolt said the Huskers are “cage rats” and focus entirely on going to class and practicing.
Nebraska added two new coaches in the offseason. Rob Childress is serving as the pitching coach, and Mike Sirianni is working with hitters and infielders.
“There’s some new ideas, some new faces in the coaching staff, and that brings a little bit of renewed energy,” Bolt said.
Nebraska will be without two standout players from last year’s team: Brice Matthews and Max Anderson.
Both were selected in the 2023 MLB draft.
Bolt said some players might emerge as leaders, but he doesn’t expect just two players to fill the vacant roles.
“It’s going to be a collective effort from the group, and it’s going to look a lot different,” he said.
