Nebraska baseball’s Mason McConnaughey selected in the fourth round of the MLB Draft

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Nebraska junior pitcher Mason McConnaughey heard his name called in the 2025 MLB Draft on Monday morning.

McConnaughey was drafted in the fourth round, No. 115 overall, by the Texas Rangers.

With the selection, McConnaughey becomes the sixth pitcher under head coach Will Bolt to be drafted in the first 10 rounds, joining Spencer Schwellenbach, Cade Povich, Emmett Olson, Jace Kaminska and Brett Sears.

McConnaughey began the 2025 season as a two-time preseason All-American and the first Husker named to the Golden Spikes Award preseason watch list since 2016.

In 2025, McConnaughey went 1-1 in three starts before suffering a season-ending arm injury vs. Sam Houston at the Frisco Classic.
