Nebraska basketball’s Rienk Mast injured in ‘random act of violence,’ Hoiberg says

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Nebraska basketball’s Rienk Mast will miss Sunday’s game against Doane after being injured in an assault.

“Rienk was the unfortunate victim of a random act of violence that happened last week,” coach Fred Hoiberg said Friday. “The authorities right now are gathering more information on the incident.”

The Lincoln Police Department said a 28-year-old man pushed Mast off a scooter near 13th and L streets on Oct. 19.

He then punched Mast “several times,” according to police.  Mast was taken to a hospital with a “suspected” broken nose.

The assailant was arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault.
