Nebraska congressmen weigh in on wall funding

Going back to Wednesday, the Senate passed a stop–gap measure that would thwart a partial government shutdown.

But on Thursday, President Trump said he would not accept such a measure that doesn’t include funding for a border wall with Mexico.

“I give them a little bit of an out: steel slats,” Trump said.  “We don’t use the word ‘wall’ necessarily, but it has to be something special to do the job.  Steel slats.”

After that, the House on Thursday voted to add $5 billion for the wall to the bill.

But it doesn’t have the support in the Senate.

We reached out to Nebraska’s congressmen to see where they stand.

Rep. Jeff Fortenberry issued a statement saying:

“I support all efforts to protect the border, which used to have bipartisan support.  We have a fundamental obligation to keep America safe.  Many Nebraskans have contacted me in this regard, and I stand with them.”

Sen. Fischer’s office issued a statement saying she supports robust security border funding.

The government shutdown deadline is Friday night at midnight.
