Nebraska Dems try to keep Robert F. Kennedy Jr. off the ballot

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – This week, the Nebraska Democratic Party filed an objection with the secretary of state to bar independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. from the ballot.
RFK Jr. has submitted more than 5,000 signatures to get on the ballot in Nebraska, more than double the number required for nonpartisan candidates.
But Nebraska Democrats claim that Kennedy and running mate Nicole Shanahan are not truly nonpartisan candidates under state law.
The Democratic Party said Kennedy has been seeking ballot access in other states as the nominee of several minor parties.
In Hawaii and North Carolina, for example, Kennedy and Shanahan are running under the We the People Party.
So Nebraska Democrats allege that they are not a nonpartisan ticket.
They also point to the fact that Kennedy and Shanahan are recent defectors of the Democratic Party.
In April 2023, RFK began running for the Democratic nomination but then left the party to launch an independent bid.
Shannahan was also a Democrat before she joined the ticket.
The party has requested that Secretary of State Bob Evnen make a decision as soon as possible.
Election officials are now reviewing RFK Jr.’s signatures to make sure they are valid.
Evnen will announce whether Kennedy will be on the ballot by Sept. 13.
Channel 8 reached out to the Kennedy campaign but did not receive a comment.
