LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The winners of the Nebraska Department of Transportation’s “Name a Snowplow” contest were announced on Tuesday.

Nebraska elementary school students submitted 300 different names for the snowplows in the inaugural contest.  NDOT narrowed down the list to 17 winners.

Shannon Ankeny, NDOT Director of Communications and Public Policy, said the students’ creativity was impressive, making it hard to pick the winners.

“We were excited to give Nebraska’s students the chance to get involved in naming our plows. It’s also a great way to recognize our hardworking snowplow drivers and maintenance workers, who are often the unsung heroes of keeping our roads safe during and after the winter weather,” Ankeny said.

The winning names include:

  • Blizzard Buster
  • Blizzard of Oz
  • Darth Blader
  • Dragon Flame
  • Drift Slayer
  • Flurry Force
  • Ice breaker 2000
  • Peppermint
  • Plower Power
  • Snow Angel
  • Snow Beast
  • Snow Big Read
  • Snow Day Hunter
  • Snowbuster
  • Snow-tal Annihilation
  • Winter Warrior

The selected plows will be branded with their new names and have been updated on NDOT’s plows.nebraska.gov.

NDOT says the goal is to have 30 new snowplow names to add by early October.
