Nebraska farmers key to stopping a cornfield fire that could’ve been much worse

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Nebraska farmers are being praised for keeping a cornfield fire from getting out of control on Monday.

O’Neill Fire & Rescue says crews from Lynch and Spencer both responded to the blaze, which spread to a tree line.

It could’ve easily jumped to another cornfield from there, if farmers hadn’t stepped in.

Officials say the farmers used their discs to keep the flames contained.

O’Neill Fire & Rescue is asking farmers to leave a disc hooked up if possible, or at least have quick access to one if needed.
