Nebraska football fills defensive coordinator, other vacancies

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Nebraska head coach Matt Rhule announced Tuesday that John Butler has been named defensive coordinator.

Butler joined Nebraska’s staff in July as the secondary coach.

He previously worked with the Buffalo Bills for six seasons as the defensive backs coach, adding the role of passing game coordinator in his final two.

Butler will replace former DC Tony White.

He has 30 years of coaching experience, including 20 in college football.

ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported the news earlier Tuesday.

Thamel also reported that Nebraska will hire Phil Snow as the associate head coach.

The Huskers are also hiring Kansas City Chiefs assistant defensive linemen coach Terry Bradden as the school’s new defensive line coach.

Nebraska will head to New York City on Dec. 28 to take on Boston College in the Pinstripe Bowl at Yankee Stadium.
