Nebraska football routed by Iowa in Heroes Trophy game

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The Nebraska football team was routed by Iowa Friday afternoon, falling 40-16 in the Heroes Trophy game at Memorial Stadium.
After a back-and-forth first half, the Huskers trailed the Hawkeyes 24-16. Iowa held Nebraska scoreless in the second half.
The Hawkeyes out-gained the Huskers 379 to 300, holding the Huskers to only 69 passing yards.
Nebraska was dominant on the ground, racking up 231 rushing yards compared to Iowa’s 213.
TJ Lateef completed nine of his 24 passes for 69 yards with no touchdowns and no interceptions.
Emmett Johnson was the lone bright spot for the Huskers, totaling 217 yards on the ground on 29 carries and a touchdown. Johnson also caught two balls for a team-high 22 yards.
Johnson is the first Husker running back to rush for 200 yards in a game since Ameer Abdullah in 2014.
Iowa quarterback Mark Gronowski completed nine of his 16 passes for 166 yards and a touchdown, while also putting up 64 yards rushing and two rushing touchdowns.
DJ Vonnahme led Iowa’s receiving corps with three catches, 91 yards and a touchdown.
On the ground, Kamari Moulton carried the ball 18 times for 93 yards and two touchdowns.
With the loss, Nebraska finishes the regular season with a 7-5 record.
The Huskers will look forward to Selection Sunday, where they will find out what bowl game they will play in. Selection Sunday is set for Dec. 7.
