Nebraska Freedom Coalition faces defamation suit over tweets about Hunt

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A defamation lawsuit was filed Wednesday against the Nebraska Freedom Coalition on behalf of State Sen. Megan Hunt.
The Nebraska Legal Action Fund, founded by former State Sen. Adam Morfeld, filed the lawsuit in Douglas County District Court.
The lawsuit alleges that the conservative group defamed Hunt by saying she groomed and abused her 13-year-old child.
The legal group said those claims led to Hunt receiving calls from people who said she should be publicly executed.
The Nebraska Freedom Coalition is a conservative political action committee.
The PAC’s leaders – Patrick Peterson, Malia Shirley and Robert Anthony – were also included in the lawsuit.
In March, Hunt and the legal group demanded that the PAC retract its tweets calling the senator a “groomer” or face “immediate legal action.”
On Tuesday evening, the Nebraska Freedom Coalition sent an email to supporters asking for donations to help pay legal expenses.
“NFC has become a target of relentless legal attacks from those who seek to silence our voices and impede our mission to protect the principles that form the bedrock of our great state,” the email said.
On behalf of Senator @NebraskaMegan we just filed litigation against the Nebraska Freedom Coalition for viciously defaming her by accusing her of grooming and abusing her own child.
These false claims led to calls to abduct her child and that she be publicly executed. pic.twitter.com/HWyp5BHJMl
