LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A Pender Public Schools senior is the first commit of a new Nebraska Presidential Scholars Program.

In February, the University of Nebraska launched the program, which offers a scholarship and $5,000 stipend to any student who scores a perfect 36 on the ACT.

Caleb Kelly, a student in Pender, officially committed to the program, the university said Wednesday.  He had a perfect score on the ACT.

Kelly will attend the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in the fall and plans to major in computer science and physics, with a minor in business.

Chris Kabourek, the university’s interim president, said he’s thrilled that Kelly signed with “Team Nebraska.”

“I couldn’t be happier for Caleb, his family and the amazing teachers and staff at Pender Public Schools who have guided him along the way,” he said in a press release.
