LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Nebraska Gov. Jim Pillen issued a disaster declaration Thursday for over 20 counties following destructive storms earlier this month.
The disaster declaration is for 23 counties, which were impacted by the storms from Aug. 8 to 11 that caused “significant damage to public property and infrastructure.”
Some of those counties include Lancaster, Gage, York and Seward. With the declaration, state funds can be “directed to assist those areas as necessary,” officials said.

In Lincoln, the storm damaged trees across the city and left over 30,000 LES customers without power.
The storm also caused extensive damage to the Nebraska State Penitentiary near 14th Street and Nebraska Parkway.
