Nebraska homeowners urged to apply for financial help before portal closes on Friday
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Nebraska Homeowner Assistance Fund has helped over 2,500 families keep their homes since it was established in 2022.
The fund helps prevent mortgage delinquencies, defaults, foreclosures and displacement for homeowners impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
“It really brings them up to where they need to be and sometimes a little bit of future help,” said Shannon Harner, executive director of the Nebraska Investment Finance Authority.
But the funds are starting to dwindle, and the online portal where homeowners can apply for help is coming to a close on Friday.
Harner urged homeowners to apply before the portal closes. Anyone who applies for assistance after Friday will be added to a waitlist.
The agency said people who apply after the deadline may not receive immediate help.
